Wesley in the studio

Finally loaded stuff on my Artfire Store that I enrolled in back in March. It is a baby start but now I know what I need to do. My photos need a different background and I need to wear my glasses when I take the darn photos.  I have added a link in Links to Artfire Store so you can check it out and let me know what you think. http://www.artfire.com/users/kimsjoy

I finished the window that fell apart taking top two rows of glass with the brass frame. Will deliver Thursday night. One job down and a big one to go…. 25 broken pieces in twin doors. I think I underjudged the time needed for this one! Workbench is cleared off so I can lay the first door on it.

Black Friday

Posted in Daily Musings at 1:52 am by Kim Joy

Slept in a little being that is vacation time! Nanook and I went for a leisurely walk. Noting that we have not seen Alley Cat in a couple days. Hope he/she is ok. Time for a quick cup of coffee and shower then out to stores. I had a list but quickly got discouraged at WalMart, they did not have the mini microwave or hand mixer I wanted to get. I did however get the Black and Decker drill and jig saw . Then off to Michaels to use the 25% coupon on jewelry class supplies. I got things that were 50% off and then took another 25% off- not bad. The cashier was trying to figure out how I would use all those beads. I did pick up lights for the front of the house, Meagan wants to make it look like a gingerbread house or something. We have the two moving reindeer to go out there also. I will put candles in the front windows.

Right now I am Gallery sitting at Ellipse. Mall is quiet even though parking garage was packed. Maybe they are at the movies or skate rink. I wrapped the pieces for Kim’s panel and hope to solder it tonight when I get home. I loaded the photos from my camera onto lap top,  then found photo to go with pendants  I am going to put on ArtFire, measured them and wrote description. I hope to get to solder some more shards tonight while here, will have to see how traffic is. I love working here when I have load of projects to work on, then the time flies. Sometimes my Arlington students come to make up classes, those days are great. While it is quiet I am going to solder… back later.

OK I finshed soldering all the pendants I had wrapped before the mall closed! I am so glad I can cross that off the honey do list. Off to go go home and have turkey leftovers and watch a movie with Meagan.

Tired and feeling run down?

Posted in Daily Musings at 12:59 am by Kim Joy

Whenever I hear those words I have to laugh, who doesn’t feel like that?  Tonight I am dragging, totally tired and worn out. I went back to work Monday after being home with the flu for 5 days. I think I could have used a few more recovery days as I am still worn down. After work was class, The Next Level in Arlington.  When I feel better and have more time to change names I will write about them. They are a hoot. Class was great, pearl pins, only a few whiners in the crowd. You know who you are!

Today was take Patrick to Bethesda to find out about having his jaw broken to stretch it out. I am not sold on this whole thing but will wait to see what the oral surgeons say. I took a nap this afternoon trying to regroup… never works and should have known that. Arlington Basics class tonight. Just starting out but we have some talent in the room. The two chemists researched pearl irradiating and found the are dyed also. They did not find any how to irradiate your pearls articles.

Hate to scribble and run but I am dog tired. Cough is getting the better of me.

National Capital Art Glass Guild meeting today

Posted in Daily Musings at 11:11 pm by Kim Joy

I finally made it to a NCAGG meeting this year. Last one I was at was probably Sept 2008 for the Annual Picnic and Auction. I do wish I made it a priority and I should. I love the members and the sharing nature of the Guild. Today there was a sharing/troubleshooting session and the work was beautiful. The probelems were covered so well, everyone shared hints and sugestions. The snacks were nice too. It was great to see Jean Lee again, so much time has passed and I hate that we can not find a time to get together and visit.

I kitted for Monday and Tuesday’s classes at Arlington. Bonnie is going to come over Saturday for a kitting day. I just need to kit for the rest of the year so that I don’t have to worry about it the night before again until next year. I am still deciding if I will still be teaching up there in 2010, lots of issues this year and money lost so I need to rethink this a little. I do love the students and we do have good numbers most of the time. It is hard but when it affects the wallet that changes it.

I hope to get the two fruit panels soldered up Tuesday and then frame all four panels Wednesday night at Lorton.  Next weekend I am going to take Christmas pieces to Ellipse, along with some panels. The two class panels that were abandoned will hang for sale at Belvoir. Then I need to get going on the pottery shard pendants for Dec 6.

GREATER WASHINGTON BEAD SOCIETY BEAD SHOW!

Posted in Daily Musings at 11:38 pm by Kim Joy

Today was great! Woke up, took Nanook for a walk, came home checked email, get ready to go to GWBS Bead Show and then saw I had time to spare. I finished soldering the iris panel, did some picking up and then Terresa came. We looked at books and caught up while waiting for Bonnie. Off to the show…. on the 270 Spur a sheet of plywood was thrown up in the air, hit Terresa’a new Jeep. It was crazy, seeing this piece of plywood break into 5 pieces in front of us. When we parked we saw there was a scuff on front bumper and 2 scuffs on passenger side of Jeep, lloks like they will all buff out. We had just passed a guy with sheet foam insulationa and made comments about them going airborne. Lots of beads and lots of friends- saw Mardi Trout, Grazia and her daughter, Clare Nykolyszyn, Martha Irish, Rita Sharon, Maxine Schutter and all the vendors we know. Kay from Stars held my heavy bag of lampwork so I could walk around and spend more! I did get supplies for Arlington classes. It was fun shopping and walking around and visiting the vendors I have known for years.

After shopping we went ot Buca Di Beppo for late lunch/early dinner. It was great, especially since Terresa and Bonnie had never been. We got two entrees and shared and brought home almost half. I love the atmosphere there. and love looking at the photos. Some great ones. In the bar was a lady with watermelon halves on her chest with this huge smile on her face. And of course Sofia Loren!  What a great restaurant, if you have not been and you ever get the opportunity please go. We are going to try and get enought to go to the Pope’s Room next visit with reservations of course. Check it out at www.bucadibeppo.com .

Came home, visited alittle while then when everyone left I started a fire in the wood stove. Looked at my bead bootie and thought up new projects. Also finished wrapping two fruit panels. Listened to Glengarry Bhoys ( www.glengarrybhoys.com) and Battlefield Band (http://battlefieldband.co.uk).  Saw Glengarry Bhoys at Scottish Games in September and love them! Been Listening to Battlefield Band for years and can’t wait to hear new album!

Now it is movie time… don’t know what is on the menu for tonight.

Friday Friday Friday

Posted in Daily Musings at 10:58 pm by Kim Joy

They are almost done laying the brick for the plaza at work. Before it was poured concrete and after years of water damage to the whole block we have been having work done since end of August/beginning of September. The brick work looks great. I do hate jack hammers that is now known. The dogs do not like all the work either. They run through the work area like it is molten lava. I do like the brick with the 12″ stepping stones around the perimeter.

Classes went well this week. At Lorton, Jean is done soldering, Diane is finished wrapping and the rest are wrapping. Two more classes. At Belvoir start of new class- 3 new people, 2 advanced and 3 finishing up their projects. Bo in the wood shop helped align the wheels on  my new band saw. I am so excited. The water reservoir is underneath and circulates. Can not wait to use it. Got supplies for pottery  shard pendants to finish for show in December. I soldered tulip and started iris.

Took Nanook to vet- hot spot from allergy. So pills and spray plus an Elizabethan collar of the boy. He hates it and I swear the cat is laughing at him. It will be better now that he has antibiotics, the area had to be shaved and it was a large area and large scab.  Nanook is now taking fish oil caplets for his dray skin.

Today was a down day, called VA Tax Dept as I was given a second and third tax number over the last year and was behind on two.  Crazy. Now down to one and no bills. Thank you Mr Taxman. Went to library book sale and picked up a couple of books for me and some for my sister for Christmas gifts. I do miss my old coworkers at the library but ai do not miss the politics of the job.

Tomorrow…. bead show with Terresa and maybe Bonnie if she can get out of work. It will be fun to see the new venue and see old vendors from our old shows.  I will probably pick up supplies for the next two classes at Arlington, I don’t need anything personal but supplies are down and with a full Basics class I can use nuggets, headpins and wire. For Next Level I can use some cool beads for the copper necklace, jump rings for the chain maile crystal bracelet. I have a $600 budget and that covers 8 classes- 5 with 7 students and 3 with 10 students. When I get home I  need to finish the iris and do the two fruit panels as well.

As you can tell I have not gotten any better this week with finding filler instead of doing studio time. I can not get out of this rut. I NEED TO WORK! There is a show coming up, ArtFire store still not up and running. Kits need to be made. The list goes on… on that note I will end and go do one of the many projects before me here on the work bench.

Election Day

Posted in Daily Musings at 12:02 am by Kim Joy

Today was election day and they are not using electronic machines anymore, they are fazing them out due to budget cuts. Serves them right, in April the County fired 297 library pages, whic I was one. Then had a hiring day 3 weeks later and hired back 50% of the  workforce at $9.78/hour with no increases and you had to work weekends. Before we got a 4.25/hr raise every six months for good behavior. Then in June I was fired from my circulation aide position. They cut the man power all over the library and it shows. Oops totally digressed there. So I did my civic duty and voted. Then mailed my application to teach for Fairfax County Adult Ed. Hoping to get a stained glass class there on Saturdays, we’ll see. They do not have any of the big tools so I would have to go out and get more. Then I went bank, the staff there is so friendly and cheery.

Came home and helped Patrick with a history project, I know yesterday I said nothing would keep me from working. After we dropped it off at school, no school because of elections, we went to Home Depot and got a leaf blower/ac and hot water heater blanket. The leaves out front were crazy and mowing them just would shred them and I would still have a brown lawn. I will only blow front and driveway, the rest can be mowed.

Trimmed the hedgehog’s nails and changed his bedding… do you hear procrastination? The nail job took forever and Meagan helped thank goodness. I will have to get a picture of Dil, all the ones we have a blurry because he is always mad. You see he lost an eye 4 years ago and has problems because of that, he runs in cicrles only in one direction. He is not mean just not a happy hedgehog like the ones we had when we lived in Florida. Tomorrow Nannok goes to the vet for some itch he has on this back by his tail. He has been licking it like crazy and driving me nuts. Nanook is our dog , in case you missed that in the past. He is a Border Collie, Chow, Husky, Peryesses mix. He looks and acts like a Border. Hope everything is ok ans he is just feeling Wesley’s pain from neutering, Wesley is our man cat, oops boy cat. Digressing again…

I did make a shopping list for Rings and Things for class. Brainstormed class projects. I try to keep a list of what each class dos so repeaters do not have to make repeat projects. I would hate that if I were the student.

Off the bed as it is early start for vet appointment on base at 8am.

Arlington Adult ed class started tonight

Posted in Daily Musings at 12:58 am by Kim Joy

After a crappy day at work it was nice to go teach a jewelry class at TJ in Arlington.

All the students have been through Basics and two went through Beyond the Basics. We let the ones that only did Basics to take The Next Level because not enough people signed up to do the 2nd class in the series. It will be fine, they all are driven to learn and catch on quickly. We did a double strand necklace with stained glass reversible pendants that I made. And since there was time left over they stamped their dominos for next week’s domino bracelet class. I think everyone had fun. I really enjoy this teaching venue. The mix is great. Everyone gets along there is laughter in the classroom. And people share so we are going to know each other.

The class thought I should have blog or write a book about my life since the separation and then divorce. They ask what happened this week, every week. I hate it to be about me. But the more I think about it it would be fun to vent and I have kept journals of events and encounters. will have to think about it more.

I came home pretty fired up and have a hunny do list for myself for tomorrow after elections. I did all my house chores tonight so tomorrow can be a all work day less voting, mailing and banking time. I have 4 panels cut out. One custom order and a show to get ready for in December. I need to hleaves falling and piling up in the yard, need to mow/mulch the acre yard. Also found the old dump out back with old bottles and broken china…. projects in the making. I have hung some of the bottles in the trees like the oldtime Southerners did to keep evil spirits away or to catch them… need to find out true story on that one.

Well it is late and I want to get some stuff ready for the mroning so I am going to stop now.

Wondering why no one has commented on the blog, does it even go out and get read?
