I love Wacky Wednesday! Last night we had a little snow storm with about 2″ of snow so itwas a White Wednesday also. It is the middle of a long week and the best part is to come, lots of studio and family time. Three days of non-profit work are behind me and now I can cut some glass and get ready for my show in February. Tonight I cut out a bird of paradise panel.
I was going to sign up for a teleseminar for artists but talked myself out of it as I do not really need to spend the money. I have resources out my ears and should use what I own before I go and buy more. What? Am I being a responsible adult? No way… just being realistic.
Michelle and I are going to start an Artist Salon. I think this will be a good start and will be team building. We will plan our start date and guest list this weekend. I am very excited to do, have been wanting to for two years. It will be great to network with other artists and work out a marketing plan.
Back to work I go……..

I entered three pieces in Del Ray’s January Show to celebrate winter “Baby It’s Cold Outside”. The show runs January 7th through 30th. Del Ray Artisans Gallery is at the Nicholas A. Colasanto Center 2704 Mount Vernon Ave. Alexandria, VA 22301. Well the reception opened at 7pm and by the time I got there at 7:30 two of my three pieces had sold! What!?! I am so excited. This has never happened to me before. I also got to meet a lot of the Board. When they found out I was labeler and stamper for the newsletter they were thrilled. It is a good job and I get in my hours so I don’t feel bad about not working enough for the Gallery.
It snowed last night, not much maybe 2″. We are supposed to get more snow this afternoon and evening. I want it to snow but hate when it makes it hard to do the things that need to be done. It does force you to slow down and appreciate things more.
Today Fairfax County Adult Ed Stained Glass Class starts. There are six students, which is a full class. Then this evening is Art Walk at the Workhouse, opening of new shows in the galleries. Helen K. Anne is our featured arttist of the month. I hope the show is good for her.
I will be featured artist next month so I am making pieces for that show. I decide on “Flowers in February” as my theme. I have two panels cut out , one Macintosh-like and one Wright-like, and patterns picked for the rest, now it is just production! I am setting up a schedule so I can make myself stick to it. I need to have new pieces.
Well I am off to kit for Monday night’s Arlington Adult Ed Jewelry making Basics class…. have a great day!

Today was a busy day at home studio and Workhouse studio. At home I cleared out the empty boxes and took the old Elfa frame out to shed along with the extra table. I am hoping to put jewelry class supplies in the Antonius organizers tonight that my secret Santa got for me.
At the Workhouse I got Tina’s ten business card holders done. They look great. Michelle sent her a photo and she sounded excited. Pick up will be Wednesday night or maybe Tuesday. Fred, Michelle’s husband, painted the alcove in the gallery. It looks great. Thanks Fred. Michelle set up the gallery for the new show. Helen is featured artist for January.

I had planned on writing a New Years Eve post but the Wood Fairy came and delivered a cord of firewood and distracted me. I could not believe it what a wonderful New Year’s gift. Thank you Corey and Terresa.I heat the house with wood so this was great. I needed to cut wood but have been under the weather with the flu and now pneumonia so I had not gotten to it. Terresa made a wonderful chicken pot pie that we all loved, I hid it so I can have some today!
One of my students gave me a Christmas gift and I got Antonius organizers for jewelry class kits and supplies. I put them together and plan on loading them today. Need to clear out the home studio of boxes and excess junk. Another friend has offered to help kit so that I will be super organized.
I will be putting together the 10 MI Homes business card holder this weekend. Ihad the pieces cut tthen I had a friend, David Barnes, laser etch the logo on the back piece. They are going to look great when they are together.
My wish for the New Year is that we all have a healthy, prosperous year filled with lots of family time and time for ourselves along with production time. We need to remember to take care of ourselves while we are taking care of everyone else.
All the best to you in 2011!

I finally got back inot the studio today after being gone since Dec. 23. I was out with the flu and it knocked me for a loop, I still have the stupidcough and I hate it. I was able to cut, grind, wrap and solder a single service star, a double service star, two icicles and a mini window. The service stars are pre-ordered, the icicles and mini window are for the “Baby It’s Cold Outside” Show at Del Ray Artisans in January. Pretty good for first day back. Tomorrow I have to go to NRA work to pull the mailing labels for the JOR (Journal of Rehabilitation) , it is ready from the printer a week early so I need to go into work on a vacation day
On the bright side I get to have lunch with Cruella for her birthday and pick up the newsletters I need for DRA to complete the monthly mailing.
I need to get back onto track and back to studio work. I need to get ready for February when I am featured artist. I would like to have a show with a theme. Need to go to sleep thinking an idea so I get some ideas going.

Well here it is the night before Christmas and I am not ready. Being sick for a week sure put me behind. Do I want to go out shopping with all the other last minute shoppers…. not really. I need to do some baking to get ready for tomorrow. My kids will not be here but I will have a house full of friends so it will be fun.
To catch you up, I was in Florida for my daughter’s graduation from USF with her Masters. It was great to go down for a couple of days and spend time with her. We don’t get to get together like the old days and I miss having Michelle around. We had Christmas with her and Sean while we were there.
Then back to chilly Virginia. It has been very cold here and windy so it cuts right through the winter coat you thought was thick enough. Actually it is but if you wear a bulky sweater under then it is hard to zip and bend without popping zipper. I think that is a sign to go on a diet in the New Year!
I am still working through Build a Better Blog workshop, can you see the difference? No neither can I. My heart just is not there but that is one of my goals for 2011- better blog, artist salon and business development. I did watch a video series Become a Better Blogger- the guy is from Austraila so listening is fun as well as watching the cute guy talk!
I opened aTwitter acount and thought that I would be tweeting regularly, what was I thinking? Who did I think invaded my bodyt to do all this extra work? Am I serious or just a loon? It is the thought that counts right?!?
I made a cool pair of earrings to go with the glass dagger necklace I made for a client. I love the earrings, she is out of town so I will have to wait to see how she likes them. A man stopped by while I was out sick to look at jewlery, he called me and we set appointment for him to come shop after hours and after I was done being sick. He picked a pendant I loved and Meagan was the model for him. He seemed happy to find something and it was different than the others I had.
I added the Market Hub to my Artfire account. That is a link to your Facebook, Twitter, website, etc. No one has bought anything there. I need to redo the photos and see if I can jazz up the site alittle to get it working for me instead of me working for it. I need to do some recon and see what is working for others. I need more hours in the day for Christmas! I will try and ask Santa for that one.
While I was out sick I messed TV and Me taping and Christmas Party, Altered Art Sale and Christmas Party, Higginbotham Christmas Party and dinner at Leopolds. Oh man I totally missed everything. I need to get into the Christmas spirit somehow…. shop? bake? wrap presents? fire in the woodstove?
Well sitting here talking about it is not going to make it happen so I better pick something and start. I know- call my sister and see what she is up to and when she is stopping back by. I can hear you now, that was not even on the list ans she is procrastinating again…. Merry Christmas Eve!

Merry Christmas from family to yours!

I came to Florida on Thursday to spend a couple of days with Michelle before she graduated from her Masters Program at USF. That night we went out to dinner with Sean’s Mom and sister. Friday we went to Joanns to look at supplies to go with the machine I got her as a gift. We had to pick up Meagan and Patrick at the airport because their father did not make the flight. We went to Ruby Tuesday’s for dinner and watched Expendables. Saturday we hung out at the house. Mike finally showed up and Michelle and Sean made homemade pizza for lunch then went to graduation. It was a nice ceremony, Meagan and I left via under the bleachers to escape the crowds. We had dinner at Wasabi- a Japanese steakhouse. It was very nice. The whole weekend was great, nice to spend time with Michelle and Sean.
Needless to say no studio time this weekend for me and I missed Art Walk. I need to get the business card blanks to David to etch and wrap up that commission. Also need to make the Nutcracker series for the Gallery.

Lots of activity in my studio this month. I have put together a photo album for the studio to show people where I came from and how I have grown. Some of those photos are pretty sad, especially my first booth at a show! Glass flat on a table, what was I thinking? This along with my electronic frame showing new commission pieces will give eople a peek at the history.
I have been making ten business card holders in the shape of a house for MI Homes. The back is teal baroque and the front and sides are brown ribbed cathedral. The back will be etched with the MI Homes logo. They are cute.
Christmas work is out in the Gallery and in my studio. Half of the pieces I hung outside of studio have sold already. I wish I had some elves to help with production. Not enough time in the day to be where I want to be. I did get a boat load of earrings done.
Class at Kawamura is going well. We did pick up two more students. They came early to class for a briefing and are at the same point as the other newbies. I think we will need to slow down this week so they do not feel stressed. I do love my Kawamura classes. I brought home all my jewelry that was out in the retail shop to take to Women’s Club Show tomorrow. I hope to move some of it and then will donate to TWIG can move old stock. I need to put more interesting and new pieces out there. Also people have been calling about jewelry classes there so hopefully we will get the minimum so we can run a class or two.
I did check out Blue Bird Stained Glass in Stafford, VA on Thursday with Jane and Beverlee. Ran into Mary and Martha- friends and students from Lorton. A great little shop with lots of inventory and wonderful finished pieces.
Today I went to the Christmas Walk in Alexandria VA. It is the Scottish Christmas Parade. Lots of kilts, Westies and bagpipes. I bought some heather at the Greens Sale. It looks great next to David Ramsay Sellars painting at home.
I am off to sit in the Gallery now.

I love making the stained glass necklace. The design happened by accident, I was messing around with squares and rectangles thinking that was the way to go and dropped a piece and it broke into a triangle and it was born. The Dagger Necklace.
It lays flat on the neck and does not feel like glass pieces around your neck. Nice and light and not sharp. I love making it and could make a bunch but I don’t want to make it not fun for me to make or not unique for the people getting them.
