Working with commissions is very exciting and as also can be a little stressful for the commissioner and myself. Hopefully this blog post will help show the process of working on a commission and take the mystery behind the scenes away.
I have been working with stained glass since 1982 and opened the storefront, Art Happens on Tarboro in 2018, prior to that I worked out of home studios or public studios in art centers.
In a nutshell commissioning a stained glass piece is unforgettable and will last for generations. You will share your idea with me and we will discuss specifications like size, design and colors. With that information I will draw up a design for you to review. After discussion, if you love it, we will select glass and I will start construction. All along the way the commissioner is in touch and can stop by to watch the process. This is the commissioner's piece so they are kept in the loop at all times. My priority is that they are in love with the piece.
I am a one woman shop and I do not outsource and part of my process. Each design is hand drawn and every piece of glass is hand selected, cut, ground, and fit into the project precisely.
