In-Person Instruction vs. Online Instruction for Stained Glass
Online classes do offer flexiability- allowing you to learn anywhere, set your own pace and save on commuting, but does require higher self discipline.
In personclasses provides direct, hands-on experience, instructor accessibilty, social opportunties but is less flexible (missing classes) and are more likely to be more expensive.
Learning to create stained glass artwork is easier in person than online.
You will want in person interaction with an instructor so you know you are doing the steps correctly.
A few examples : thinking about layout of pattern pieces and cutting glass- you would want instant access to the instructor in person to prevent pitfalls- grain of glass for pieces that matter like leaves and flower petals, the the trail to cut the glass with all the pattern pieces glued down- can you make that cut with out boxing yourself in.
While soldering, when you work a little too long in an area and the glass cracks due to overheating, the inperson instructor could see this and give advice on the spot to hopefully prevent it. Can an online instructor see you working?
I have tried talking head classes in watercolor and metalsmithing. I am always behind and aggravated that I can’t get advice or help right when I need it, not emailing instructor and waiting for a response.
