You signed up for a Stained Glass Class now what?
You have signed up for a stained glass class and the description says classroom use tools available but you want to get your own. So what do you do? You go to Youtube and watch every video on creating stained glass and see all their tools. Not all creators use the same tools than others.
So what do you do? You follow their links to Amazon or go on Amazon on your own. You buy every tool you saw used. You think” now I’m prepared.”
Guess what… you never should have bought them! Not yet anyway.
Why? Many Youtubers mean many different tools. The tools I use at home are sometimes different from the classroom tools. Why? Because I have been creating for over 43 years, I have upgraded my tools because I work everyday and my joints are getting old :(
All my classroom tools at 3 different venus are all the same! Why? Because they work and work well. In the beginning use the classroom tools, they are tried and true.
There are so many types of cutters, cutting systems, breaking pliers, grozing pliers, running pliers, soldering irons… the list goes on.
I don’t want you to waste you money on crap tools (sorry people if I offend you) or tools that you don’t need.
Bottom line- go to class, use what is there. If you want to purchase tools speak to the instructor. They know good from bad.
Sidenote- what if you hate working in stained glass after taking the class or are not as good at it as you hoped for- if you bought the tools already- you wasted your money and will have to list them on Marketplace along with all the other unwanted stained glass tools in your geographical area. Please wait until the class is near over before shopping.
Second Sidenote- you can learn from Youtube videos but no one is going to answer your questions or stop you from making that mistake that causes your glass to break incorrectly in real time like a in-person class. And then there are the safety issues! Don’t get me started, you need a live instructor!
