Just Start Somewhere!

Have you ever had a day where you know you have to do tasks but feel overwhelmed? Where do you start?

Just start somewhere. It will get you making progress and feel like you have made the movement toward the tasks calling for you.

Many days I wake up with big plans to accomplish, then something slows me down or I grind to a halt, knowing this is the death to progess for the day. A little voice inside says “Kim, just get off your slow train and do something, anything. You will thank yourself later. I promoise.” And sure enough once I get started I feel like keeping on going.

Why are we like that? It must be human- know what to do but get diverted to the slow train. I do not like that feeling at all.

After years of classes and self help books I think I realize it is a distraction. If you don’t do it, you can’t be a failure if you did it and it sucked. Well that just made me feel lazy- it needs to get done and if I didn’t do it I was behind and would kick myself later.

Think about your future self. Imagine how happy they would be that you took the time and energy to do the task that you wanted to walk away from. You would be one step closer to completion than you are now. Just do it! Then celebrate! It can be small- a walk with your dog, a sit for 10 minutes in the sun soaking up Vitamin D, looking at old photos that make you smile or just knowing you did it!

Just start somewhere! I am cheering you on!
